MUSIC MINISTRY AT ST. PAUL
Please consider joining one
of the choirs at St. Paul this year. The gift of music is a vital part
of our worship life. Look over the following descriptions of our choirs
and see where your gift may be used. For additional information
contact Director of Traditional Church Music, Kenneth Krause at 626-4709.
Our Director of Alternative Church Music and Youth Music is Mrs. Melodie Fair.

Cherub Choir (4 yrs old – Grade 2)
This choir practices on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 - 6:30pm in the choir room.
They usually present a musical offering once a month at the 10:45 service.
They also participate in the Christmas and spring musicals. The children
learn the importance of musical leadership in our worship service. The songs
are fun and easy to learn. The children are taught musical skills through
games and activities. The choir also learns to play instruments such as tone
chimes, rhythm instruments, and a variety of drums.

Martin Luther Choir (Grades 3-6)
The children in this choir practice on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-7:00pm in
the choir room. They usually present an anthem once a month at the 10:45
service and occasionally at the 8:00 service. They also participate in the
Christmas and spring musicals. The children are taught songs that reflect
the various themes throughout the church year. Proper vocal techniques are
emphasized through creative exercises. The children will often accompany
themselves with percussion instruments.
Joyful Noise Praise Ensemble (Grades 7-12)
The youth usually practice Sunday mornings from 9:20-9:35 in the Nave. On
the 4th Sunday of the month they have an extended practice from 9:20-10:00.
They offer musical preludes, anthems, and musical leadership for the liturgy
at one or more services a month. The music of this ensemble is alternative
in nature and incorporates drums, guitar, saxophone, keyboard as well as
vocalists.
Matins Choir (Youth and Adult)
This choir rehearses Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:00 in the choir room.
During lent they rehearse on Sunday mornings from 7:15 – 8:00. They provide
musical leadership at the 8:00 a.m. service on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th
Sundays. The anthems they present are fairly easy to learn and are usually
in 2-3 parts.
Senior Choir (Youth and Adult)
The rehearsals for this choir are on Wednesday evenings from 8:00 – 9:15 in
the choir room. This choir provides musical leadership at the 10:45 service
on the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays. They present musical offerings from a
variety of sources including spirituals, the classics, and from contemporary
composers. They sing in multiple parts.
Festival Choir (Youth and Adult)
This choir provides musical leadership on Festival occasions such as
Reformation Sunday, Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday. They also present major
musical works for special occasions and the Concert Series. The rehearsals
are announced well in advance of the occasion on which they are to sing.
Members of this choir are from the Youth Ensemble, Matins Choir, Senior
Choir and any other singers interested in singing with a limited amount of
rehearsals.
Cantabile Ringers (Grade 6 – Adult)
The rehearsals for this bell choir are on Monday evenings from 6:30 – 7:15
in the Nave. The choir usually provides musical offerings at one service a
month at either the 8:00 service or the 10:45 service. Beginning handbell
ringers are urged to join the choir. It is helpful to have some musical
background to join the group. Rehearsals are fun and incorporate various
activities to help learn the techniques of handbell ringing.
Jubilate Bells (Adult)
This bell choir practices on Monday evenings from 7:30 – 8:45 in the Nave.
The choir provides musical offerings on the 3rd Sunday of the month at the
10:45 service and on the 4th Sunday at the 8:00 Service. They also play for
festival Sundays, concerts and attend various handbell workshops. The music
they learn is both challenging and rewarding. Participants must be able to
read music and have a good sense of rhythm.
